Topic: New engine: QChan24 and QChan25

Fresh and hot, just finished the first fully working version. Not tested properly, tho!

- Per note envelopes, attack/decay/sustain types
- Per note volume, detune, legato mode
- Slide up/down for ch1
- Digital drums from Ear Shaver EX

The downside is much larger data format.

Not done with it yet, another flavor of the engine is cooking.

Re: New engine: QChan24 and QChan25

Actually second version is already here, along with minor fixes for the first one.

So, here is two flavors of the engine: QChan24 and QChan25. The difference is that it has 4 or 5 channels. The sound generation algorithm is the same, but the implementation is quite different. QChan25 obviously has a bit lower sound quality and takes even more memory to store song data.

Will include it into the 1tracker package after some testing.

Re: New engine: QChan24 and QChan25

Thanks Shiru

Sounds very interesting from the demo track

Just trying it in 1tracker now.
Wow this is a great new sound, love the slides

Re: New engine: QChan24 and QChan25

Wow, I've now taken the octaves down and imported the drums from buzzkik, this is a new level !

Excellent smile

Re: New engine: QChan24 and QChan25

Absolutely loving this engine. Couldn't resist recording and EQing the test track I've been fiddling with:

Re: New engine: QChan24 and QChan25

My apologies Shiru, I'm super pressed on time rn so haven't had the chance to test these. Just judging from Tufty's test track (also heard it without EQ) though, QC24 at least sounds amazing. I think absolutely nailed the volume balance between tones and drums this time.

Re: New engine: QChan24 and QChan25

Hello! I got a song done with the Qchan24 engine provided here, so I figured to send this here also. I kinda ended up double posting, whoops.
I'm very happy with it and I think I managed to get a good amount out of the engine :3
I think did the reference stuff right too in hopes of reducing file size, I have no clue if this is possible to run on an actual ZX.

Let me know what you think, I'd love some feedback :3

Re: New engine: QChan24 and QChan25

Cool, that's interesting!

It will play on actual ZX. If you press F6, you'll see how much memory it takes, which is ~20KB at the moment, and up to 32KB will work. You can also try automatically downsize by pressing Ctrl+F4, however with this song it is somehow gets its much larger instead, ~26KB. But in many cases the RowOpt helps greatly.

Re: New engine: QChan24 and QChan25

Huh, interesting that it becomes bigger, maybe you can find out why. It was my first time using 1tracker so I'm not yet with familiar with all the stuff and I forgot about the intro screen, whoops big_smile

I hope you have a great day! :3

Re: New engine: QChan24 and QChan25

Lovely track, I'm like the harmonies you've got going on here.

The increase in data size can be mitigated if you set the end marker to the actual end of the song (press Ctrl+End on row 4536 after running RowOpt).

Re: New engine: QChan24 and QChan25

Thanks utz! Oh an end marker? Good to know :3

I hope you have a great day! :3
