Topic: Musix Box - old DOS program that played music through PC speaker.

Hi,

Does anyone remember a music playing program for PC (DOS) called Music Box, that played music through the PC speaker?

It had loads of songs in it and The Entertainer was one of them.  It was basically just a screen with text saying the names of the songs and a grid around them, you used the cursor to move up and down to select the tunes.

I remember I had to slow my Amstrad PC from 4.5mhz down to 3mhz (i think), so that it would play the tunes at the correct speed.

I would love to find this program again and run it on dosbox.

Any help in finding it would be much appreciated,

Matthew.

Hi mate,
Sorry, I don't know this particular program. Was it monophonic, or did it do multi-channel music?
In any case, there is some old PC Speaker stuff here: http://cd.textfiles.com/psl/pslmonthly2 … /mus_spkr/
Also, Will Harvey's Music Construction Set had the Entertainer as a demo tune, you can probably find that on some abandonware site.

Btw I'm looking for Will Harvey's Music Construction Set for Apple II, and also for Atari ST and C64, I couldn't find it (only the DOS version)... Do someone here have it?

http://csdb.dk/release/?id=21492 - That seems to be C64 version.

The Music Box i'm after was monophonic i believe.

@garvalf Apple II version is in TOSEC.

@matalog uhh... in this case it'll be difficult to find. There were quite a few monophonic pc speaker music "demos" back in the day, and this stuff isn't exactly well preserved online either. Really sorry man, I'll keep an eye out for this but I'm afraid I can't help you further at the moment.

Thanks a lot, both of you. I got also the ST version on this forum:

I managed to import one of my midi files into the Amiga version of Deluxe Music Construction Set, then export it to IFF Smus format, so I could re-import into the Atari ST version. But I'm a bit disappointed because the sound isn't that good, I hoped to be able to modify more parameters for the instruments (and also on Atari the timing isn't very precise it seems)
