This is great, very impressive. Love the music video feel to it smile

I'm amazed there was any processor time left for animation while playing Mister Beep's Interstellar Drift Octode XL tune!

AY drums on the 128K too?

Nice idea smile

I've been very busy at work recently so haven't been very active on the forum but my enthusiasm for 1-bit hasn't diminished.

Maybe a list of allowed engines for the compo?

Nice piece of kit, and sized to fit into a raspberry pi case was a good idea. The ps2 keyboard socket was a strange choice I thought, but I liked the sticker set available to customise an old keyboard.

As utz said, probably the licence costs preventing an hdmi output, I think this was also the reason the original Vega didn't have it too.

Thanks for all the comments guys smile

Utz - yeah I enabled the IO contention in Beepola to try and make the output sound like a 48k speccy. It played at the right speed and had the 48k 'muzziness' but the arps were also not distorted, unlike real hardware - bizarre.

Garvalf - I agree, I think for this engine the +2A output sounds cleaner and is preferable. I still prefer the 48k for Qchan though as it seems to beef up the thin sound a bit.

Cheers

I've emailed the source .bbsong to you smile

Hi Guys

If anyone is interested, I've made a recording from real hardware of Space Beeps (Part 2).

The render on BOTB was made from the Beepola export. I originally tried to make a recording from my Speccy 48K but the arps sounded a bit distorted.

I've had another go tonight and recorded it from my Spectrum 128K +2A which sounds OK.

Even though I recorded it in 48K mode the tune does still play a bit faster (shaved about 5 seconds off the length) but I think it sounds a bit less scratchy.

Not sure which version I prefer as other parts have also subtly changed but it seemed wrong not to record it from real hardware wink

Hmmm 1-bit digital modules?

Seems like a strange addition to me!

I love 1-bit music but digital 1-bit mod-like music on the Speccy 48K just doesn't do it for me.
As a technical exercise to prove it can be done, I think 1-bit digital music is great but I'd much prefer to listen to the exact same tune played in better quality through an AY chip.

Anyway, just my opinion, what do you guys think ? smile

Yes the Vega 1-bit sound is very accuate.

There's the Vega Plus handheld coming out in September too  smile

Like the sound in the example. As you say, a pretty clean sound but still retaining the synth timbre from a pfm engine. Could be a very interesting new engine !  smile

Wow, great release smile

I've always thought the future of beeper was to have lyrics over the top and I've often thought about doing this sort of track myself although probably with vocoder or speech synthesizer. I remember Mister Beep shared with us his idea of singing over Furious Bees a few years ago.

Really like the fact he's used plip plop and phaser 1 for some of the tracks and also like his selection of merchandise.

Great achievement, congrats Tronimal smile

Cheers utz.

BTW, just downloaded the upgraded quattropic package and played the demo tune.

There now seem to be some strange artifacts playing in this version sort of bordering on glitches. Was this intentional ?
I've just played the original demo tune from Aug 2015 just to check it's not the emulator and that still plays fine.

Wow utz !

This is great, love the engine and the border FX smile

BTW, I've just tested the demo-nmos.tap file on different speccy models using Spectaculator and get very different border FX on different models 48K, 128K and 128+2A

The FX on the +2A are brilliant smile
